The production process generates small and inevitable dimensional variations. The gauge is an interval of equal width that the manufacturer defines to group tiles of the same nominal size. At the time of packaging the pieces, they have already been classified and grouped into calibers, therefore they are of homogeneous measurement within each of them.

GASKETS, ADHESIVES AND PASTE
Just as the manufacture of ceramic tiles has made great advances in recent years, the same has happened with adhesives and pastes, and in general with all industrialized construction materials. Hence, it is so necessary to constantly update the products themselves as well as the way they are installed, verifying the correct compatibility between the different elements.
JOINTS
Joints are spaces that must always be left when laying a ceramic floor or covering. There are three types:
- Intermediate or interplates are those that separate one piece from the other.
- Perimeters are those that must separate the plates from the walls and from any other element present in the environment (for example opening frames, columns, etc.).
- Structural are those that are made every certain number of square meters (25 or less) or linear (6 or less) depending on the case and must reach a greater depth than the thickness of the plates, in line with that of the substrate.
The purpose of every joint is to absorb the movements that may occur between the different components of the system. Therefore, they must be clean, dry and filled with an elastic material. A joint that contains remains of construction material or has been filled (even partially) with an inadequate material, loses all its ability to act and is as if it were not made. The aesthetic trend of using pieces of increasingly larger size causes the number of joints to decrease, making them a critical aspect of installation if they are not correctly executed.

ADHESIVES
All adhesives must have a certain capacity for deformability, that is, for accompanying small variations in the movement of the tiles or supports without allowing the pieces to come off. In cases where surfaces are covered with heated slabs or subjected to repetitive cycles of large thermal amplitudes, it is necessary to use special adhesives (usually called flex) that fix by chemical adhesion. Finally, there is a precaution to take into account, do not forget that the glue must cover 95% of the piece and the use of double gluing, that is, placing adhesive on the surface to be coated and also on that of the plate, in special cases and surfaces of pieces greater than 900 cm.2.

Porcelain tile is the ideal material to use as a pool coating since it meets the following requirements:

To ensure correct placement, it is necessary to use adhesive mixtures and pastes resistant to water, chemicals such as chlorine, algaecides, etc. and whose performance and adhesion allow it to resist the pressure of the water (when the pool is full) and the counterpressure of the glass (when it is empty). - When carrying out this type of installation, the following must be taken into account:
- Interplate joint (3-4 mm)
- Every 25 m² or 6 ml a structural joint must be placed, this allows it to work in a better way due to the stresses it is subjected to.
- 10 mm perimeter joint
- Adhesive for porcelain tile, use of a flex that allows it to work better with radiant tiles

Unpolished glazed tiles are not absolutely flat.
It is common to want to place (especially rectangular formats) locked. The correct way to do it is not to lock 50% of the longest side, but to do it up to 33% in rectified porcelain products and 20% in non-rectified products.
This prevents the flattest part (the ends) from meeting the most curved part (the center). Added this to the 3 mm. of interplate joints that must be left, the desired aesthetic effect is achieved and functional inconveniences due to unevenness are avoided.
🫧 How is the cleaning of ceramic tiles? 🫧
Once the installation is completed, any remaining material (cement, paste, etc.) must be removed so that the work looks good without affecting the final appearance of the product. In most cases, cleaning with a solution of muriatic acid diluted to 10% or with specific commercial products (the so-called work debris remover) is sufficient and rinsing with plenty of clean water immediately after treatment, to remove any remains of the chemical product. .
🫧 How do I carry out daily cleaning of a porcelain tile? 🫧
For daily cleaning of glazed tiles, all you need is a damp cloth with clean water. Occasionally, water can be used with a few drops of neutral detergent, as they are also useful for removing traces of grease or dirt.
The use of any type of waxy or self-shining products is discouraged, since they form a superficial layer on the enamel, which, as mentioned, is glazed in nature.
